Palms West Hospital Before Surgery Photo Tour

Welcome to The Children's Hospital at Palms West!

This is the entrance to the hospital where you will be having your surgery.

Welcome Desk

This is where you let the hospital know you are here. There will be a person at the Desk and she will let you know when it is time to go get ready for your surgery.

Check In

You will also get a coloring book and crayons to use while you wait for your surgery.

Waiting Room

This is where you may have to wait until the nurse comes to get you for your surgery. There are lots of toys and a TV for you to watch while you wait.

Waiting Room

This is also the room where your parents will wait while you are having your surgery.

Check Up

This is the room where you will be getting ready for your surgery. Here you will put on your gown that you will wear during surgery. This room has a TV and a remote that you can control.

Check Up

Here the nurse will give you a bracelet that has your name on it and one with any medicines that you may be allergic to. She will put a clip on your finger also known as a pulse oximeter. It measures how much oxygen is in your body. Then she will take your temperature.

Height and Weight

The Nurse will measure and weigh and then you will go back into your room.

The Blood Pressure Cuff

The nurse will put a blood pressure cuff on your arm. A blood pressure cuff goes on your arm or leg and squeezes like a hug to check how the blood is moving through your body.

My IV

This is an IV. An IV is a small plastic tube that goes into your vein. This tiny tube is giving your body water and medicine to help you feel better. The nurse will put tape on your arm to hold the IV in place while you are at the hospital.

Anesthesia

Before heading to the OR a doctor called an Anesthesiologist will come and talk with you and your parents.

Anesthesia

He is going to help take care of you and help you sleep during the surgery. This way you will not feel anything! He will let you pick out your own fun flavor to smell while wearing the anesthesia mask.

Going to the OR

When it is time to go to the Operating Room, a nurse will take you on a bed called a stretcher it has wheels on it!

Going to the OR

This is where you will say “see you soon Mom and Dad” and they will wait for you in the waiting room.

The Doctor that give you the Sleepy Medicine

Once you are in the OR, the anesthesiologist will start to give you medicine through your mask called anesthesia. This is a special kind of medicine that you breathe in just like air that will help you sleep during your operation. You will not feel anything and you will wake up when the operation is over.

The Family Waiting Room

While you are having your operation a Nurse will let your parents know how you are doing.

Waking Up in the PACU

After your operation is done, you will go to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, which is also called the PACU or recovery room. In this room you will be able to see your Mom, Dad, or family member once you wake up. A PACU nurse will watch how you are doing. It is normal to feel tired or sore, but your Nurse can help you feel better.

3rd Stage Recovery

This is the room you will go to right before you are sent home. Your mom or dad will also be able to come with you.

3rd Stage Recovery

In this room a new nurse will get your blood pressure by giving your arm a big hug. Remember this doesn’t hurt!
